What we do at the lake

Some of these houses are lived in every day of the year. Some are full on weekends and quiet in between. Either way they have a dock and a boathouse the Wi-Fi never reached, and an owner who would rather enjoy the place than manage it. Everything below is built around that.

Whole-home network, Wi-Fi and Starlink

A wired backbone and Wi-Fi that reaches the dock, the boathouse and the guest house. Sized for a house full of guests streaming at once. Starlink is a specialty: mounted where it has clear sky, wired in properly, and made part of the house network rather than a box on the windowsill.

Audio-video and home theater

Music on the deck and down at the water, a theater that stays simple, televisions that come on with one button. Set up so guests can run it without a lesson.

Lighting control and automation

Scenes for dinner on the porch and for arriving at midnight. Shades, thermostats and locks on the same system, so there is one app, not seven.

Security and cameras

Cameras on the water side and the road side, door locks and an alarm you can check from home.

Turnkey care, ongoing

Remote monitoring, a person who already knows the house, and a number that gets answered. Whether you live here year-round or come up on Fridays, the technology is managed so you can simply enjoy the house. This is the specialty.

CJ Jones spent about a decade at Apple before he started his own company. That is where he learned how IT should be run and how people should be treated when it breaks: the support discipline, the customer service, the insistence that the thing simply works.

2015 · Tech Titans

Started looking after the IT that small businesses in Birmingham run on: the network, the email, the machines on people's desks.

The physical side

The work kept pulling toward the cabling in the walls, the cameras at the door, and the rooms where the audio and the picture have to work every time. For several years he helped run an audio-video and home automation company in the city.

Day to day

He carries the systems for a hospitality property in Birmingham with multiple tenants and live venues, among them a listening lounge built around a Dolby Atmos system with 85,000 watts of amplification behind it. The network, the cameras, and the audio and video all have to hold up on a Saturday night. That is the standard he brings to a lake house, and the reason the ongoing care is the part he cares about most.

2025 · Ulo Pro

All of it under one name, pointed at the houses he most likes working in: the ones on the water.

Ulo Pro is owner-operated. The person who walks the house and writes the proposal is the person on the ladder, and the same person answers the phone afterward. That keeps the scope honest and the change orders short. He lives in Birmingham with his family.

A smaller amount of commercial work runs alongside the lake houses.
